Namitha (born Namita Mukesh Vankawala) (born 10 May 1981) is an Indian actress, who has appeared in Indian regional movies, such as Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam films.She first came into the limelight after she was crowned Miss Surat during the year 1998.[1] She went on to participate in the 2001 Miss India pageant and ended up as the fourth runner-up, while Celina Jaitley was crowned Miss India during this event. This publicity opened up doors for her and she did a number of TV commercials like Himani cream & hand soap, Arun Ice Cream, Manikchand Gutka, and Nile herbal shampoo.
Film director Siddiqui introduced her to the tinsel screen in a Malayalam movie, and thereafter Namitha has acted in several Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and English movies. In the first of two Telugu movies she went by the name of Bhairavi. She attained fame after the release of 'Engal Anna' in which she starred opposite Vijayakanth. She is also known as an item girl in regional movies, and often appears in Tamil magazine front covers. She became even more popular after her dance number 'Arjuna Arjuna'.[2]
She made her acting debut in the Telugu film Sontham directed by Sreenu Vaitla. Subsequent to that, she starred in the Tamil film Aai. In 2006 she made her Bollywood debut in the Hindi film Love Ke Chakkar Mein. Standing 6' tall, she is one of the tallest actresses in Bollywood.[3]
On 26 October 2010, there was an attempt to kidnap her by a fan at Trichy in Tamil Nadu.[4]
On 17 April 2011, she inaugurated the Nungambakkam (Chennai) branch of the sports cafe Blitzz.[5]
Namitha has been an advocate of safe driving: in June 2012, she and Tamil actor Bharat promoted awareness of safe driving.[6]

Namitha was born in the Punjabi-speaking Kapoor family in Surat, Gujarat, India on May 10, 1981. She is the only daughter in this family, which consists of her dad, a businessman while her mom is a homemaker. She has a degree in English Literature. She used to teach swimming to young children and was raised in Mumbai.
She is proficient in Karate, loves to dance, watch movies, swim and play badminton in her spare time and likes to work out physically. She likes novels, especially by Sidney Sheldon, as well as comic books. She is a promoter of Gadgetguru.

Namitha (Tamil: நமிதா கபூர்; born as Namita Mukesh Vankawala) is an Indian actress, who has appeared in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam & English films. She was born in Surat, India. Namitha also sponsored public toilet projects in commercial areas of several states, mainly for ladies. Namitha besides her films has also gained fame in small screen programme Manada Mailada in Kalignar TV. She started out by participating in the Femina Miss India Contest. She was crowned Miss Surat in 2000 and came fourth in the Miss India contest during the year 2001 along with Trisha Krishnan and Celina Jaitley, who was crowned Miss India Universe. She has acted in Telugu,Tamil, Kannada, Hindi & Malayalam films. She made her debut in the Telugu film Sontham. Subsequent to that, she became famous after the Tamil film Engal Anna opposite Vijayakanth. She starred in Tamil Film "Aai" the song "Arjuna Arjuna" along with Sarath Kumar, which ended up as a big hit. This movie dubbed in Hindi as Nayi Baazi. Her screen name for the first two Telugu movies was Bhairavi. She has also appeared in an English film named Maya directed by Eric Manning.
